Endoscopic Brow Lift

A surgical procedure that removes excess fat deposits from specific areas of the body to improve body contour and achieve a more sculpted appearance.

Procedure Information

What is an Endoscopic Brow Lift?

An endoscopic brow lift is a minimally invasive surgery that reduces wrinkles and frown lines in the brow and forehead area. This procedure is ideal for younger patients who do not yet have wrinkles and therefore will not require excess skin to be removed.

Endoscopic brow lift surgery is performed using a tiny camera and television monitor. Only minimal incisions are necessary to insert the camera, allowing for minimal scarring and a speedy recovery.

This procedure can be performed by itself or in combination with other cosmetic procedures such as face lift or blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) for optimal results. At the Melbourne Institute of Plastic Surgery, our surgeons will be able to recommend the procedure or combination of procedures best suited to your needs.

What results can I expect?

Patients can expect a more youthful and alert appearance post-procedure. The eyebrows will be lifted to a more natural position, which can help to open up the eyes and improve the overall balance of facial features. While results vary from person to person, the outcome is typically long-lasting. Patients should maintain realistic expectations and understand that while the procedure can significantly enhance appearance, it does not halt the natural aging process.

What’s the first step to take?

The first step involves a consultation with one of our qualified plastic surgeons. During this meeting, the surgeon will evaluate your facial structure, skin quality, and aesthetic goals. They will also review your medical history and discuss the potential risks and benefits of the procedure. This consultation provides an opportunity to ask questions and set realistic expectations for the surgery’s outcome.

How do I prepare for surgery?

Proper preparation is key to a smooth surgery and recovery process. Patients are advised to:

  • Stop smoking at least a few weeks before the surgery to promote better healing.
  • Avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements that can increase bleeding.
  • Arrange for someone to drive you home post-surgery and stay with you for the first night.

What happens on the day of my surgery?

On the day of the surgery, patients should follow the specific instructions provided by their surgeon, which may include fasting guidelines depending on the anaesthesia used. The medical team will prepare you for surgery, including cleaning the surgical area and administering anaesthesia for your comfort during the procedure.

What should I expect during surgery?

The endoscopic brow lift is performed under general anaesthesia or IV sedation. The surgeon makes several small incisions behind the hairline and inserts an endoscope to view the tissues and muscles. Through another incision, instruments are used to lift the forehead skin, reposition the eyebrows, and remove or alter muscle and tissue to smooth wrinkles. The incisions are then closed with sutures or clips. The procedure typically takes about one to two hours, depending on the extent of the surgery.

What should I expect after surgery?

Post-surgery, patients can expect:

  • A recovery period that usually involves some swelling and bruising, which can extend to the cheeks and eyes but should diminish within two weeks.
  • Prescribed pain medication to manage any discomfort.
  • A follow-up appointment to remove sutures or clips and check the healing process.
  • Instructions on how to care for the incision sites and when to resume normal activities. Most patients can return to work and light activities within a week or two, with more strenuous activities delayed for at least six weeks.

What are the risks and complications with this procedure?

As with any surgical procedure, an endoscopic brow lift carries certain risks, including:

  • Infection
  • Scarring
  • Changes in skin sensation
  • Asymmetry in the position of the brows
  • Hair loss along the incision lines

Patients are encouraged to discuss potential risks and complications with their surgeon to make an informed decision.

You should also call our office if you experience any of the following: excessive pain or bleeding, abnormal swelling, fever or signs of infection during the first few days post-surgery.
